SERT’s Mission Statement
SERT strives to directly involve students in professional STEM fields through collaboration with volunteers, professional engineers and partnerships with local technical corporations. We work together as a team to use current technology to design and build robots to compete in the FIRST’ Robotics Competition. The FIRST program builds self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology, and engineering.
SERT’s Vision
To be a model FIRST robotics team.
Student Focus:
We maintain our focus on the needs of our student team members and remain mindful that we exist for their benefit.
Teamwork:
We maximize the effectiveness of all of our team members; we seek to fully utilize the capability of students, mentors, sponsors, volunteers, and parents.
Respect:
We respect everyone. We value our differences and leverage our diversity for the mutual benefit of our team.
Integrity:
We cherish and protect our reputation for honesty, fairness and ethical conduct. We refuse to compromise our integrity, and we maintain our high personal standards of conduct in all circumstances.
Dedication:
We are committed to our Mission, Vision, and values. We willingly set aside our personal interests for the best interest of the team and fully participate in the activities of our team.
Excellence:
We strive to be always growing, always improving our process, our designs, and ourselves. We always give our best effort. We inspire others to give their best effort.
SERT’s Culture
SERT embraces FIRST’s principle of Gracious Professionalism.
“Gracious Professionalism is part of the ethos of FIRST. It's a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. With Gracious Professionalism, fierce competition and mutual gain are not separate notions. Gracious professionals learn and compete like crazy, but treat one another with respect and kindness in the process. They avoid treating anyone like losers. No chest thumping tough talk, but no sticky-sweet platitudes either. Knowledge, competition, and empathy are comfortably blended.” Dr. Woodie Flowers, FIRST.
Team members respect each other’s ideas and work together to produce the best product we can. Every person can contribute to the productivity of the team: new members should come ready to learn, and more senior students should not only contribute to the design of the robot but also teach their skills to others. Everyone needs to have a positive attitude, be a team player, and most importantly, have fun!
